It’s a bit odd, but typical of me. Since 1968 I have been planning to go back to Viet Nam and recently it dawned on me that the folks I knew there are likely long dead, and if not are now part of a large city in lieu of a small village. The one thing you could not accuse the Vietnamese people of was being lazy. They worked very long 12 hour days and were slow, steady, and tireless. It is amazing, but not surprising to see the pictures and films of the progress they have made. At one point a Mommasan tried to talk one of the ladies who worked in the kitchen to claim me as the father of the child she was carrying, it is with some regret i was not and could not have been the father. Thi’ refused to do that...and sometimes I wish she would have. I am sure I could have given her and the child a better life. She was married shortly after that and I left Nam a few months later. And shortly after that I met a tall auburn haired beauty who gave us two great sons. Lol Now I am wondering if I have posted this before here. Old age is great. lol. Anyway, just started TOP OF THE HEAP an A.A. Fair novel...aka Erle S. Gardner. Erle and Louis always reminded me of having different but similar writing styles, so it was no surprise to learn they both started out writing for the Pulp Magazines, where “getter done” was the route to payday.
