"Beau and Angelique are welcome to t"

Who is the most interesting celebrity you ever met. And was it their accomplishments or charisma.
I hope Beau and Angelique will join. They should have some whopper of a story.

Raquel Welch...just a very nice lady. Met her briefly in Nam and mostly hung around awhile just to watch her interact with GIs. Do not have a clue what I was expecting, but she was just very kind and gracious to everyone who came in contact with her. She made a very good impression and I suspect it was her attitude that brought out the respect she was shown. She has a very warm, genuine smile, by the way.

Come to think of it I have never met or witnessed a celebrity who wasn’t kind when shown courtesy. David Hedison was pretty cool. Met him on the street outside the B&O RR Central Building in Baltimore when he was in a play across the street. We were passing one another and he saw that I recognized him and greeted me with a smile and, “Hi, Kid.” He made a great first impression. Working on the mezzanine of the B&O Central Building in “GO” Telegraph Office, we overlooked the rehearsal hall, which was across the street. Saw a lot of great dancers rehearsing, including Juliet Prowse for Irma La Douce...floor to ceiling windows in the rehearsal hall, and they usually opened the curtains. Coincidentally, the rehearsals coincided with my lunch hour.

Got another story...somebody ring the bell.

At an EM Club in Nam. A band and stripper from the Philippines. A buddy from L.A. named Mike Simpson was enticed up on stage with the stripper. A couple of other guys had danced with her and she teased them but they didn’t bump her when the opportunity arose, Mike did...to a standing ovation. The stripper joked back by wagging her finger at him. One of the guys at the table said something about Mike not being aroused and Mike responded, “Get real.” I looked for Mike for decades and finally found him in Phoenix, of all places, about a month after he’d died. Mike was the third Army buddy I had located and all had died just before I located them. I stopped looking.

It's friends like that you don't EVER forget. I also remember friends like that who were real Characters. Long gone now.
And then there are new ones ... of course.
Now, back to John Wayne in The Shootest.

I'm not a good person to speak on this because most show business celebrities have a "meeting the public" persona which is a very cool version of themselves and then they have the real person, the insecure, vain, wacko that comes out at home or at work. I've met quite a few of that type. That said, I knew RW's 2nd ex back in the '90s and he described a basically good person when he spoke about her.

I'm going to cheat and use someone not in entertainment, Edward Teller, the "father" of the H-Bomb. I met him in the 1990s and he seemed to be going off in every direction at once. He was defensive, defiant, proud, weirdly funny, and frightened. He was fantastically intelligent and outspoken he clearly had as many extreme facets to his personality as the subject of the bomb had in our culture. You said "interesting" celebrity, right? Teller was REALLY interesting to watch even if I didn't understand a lot of what he was saying!

I can imagine.
He seems quite extraordinary.
I couldn't understand someone like that either.
My most interesting encounter was when I spent the day with Sandra Day O'Conner at the Westin hotel in El Paso, Tx.
She was quite the lady.
I met many there but most were mediocre at best, although they put on a great front.
I hope more will come forward with a good story.
One thing, Beau, did you ever run Into a genuine Hollywood beauty. And if so, was she?

Les that’s very true...and funny at the same time. Two very pretty ladies. I like that Beau looks like both parents...mostly a younger version of Dad, but his own look. It’s something I can relate to because it’s taken decades to finally look like a Shäffer and yet the height and coloring of my Maternal ancestors. I can and could literally eat soup off the heads of my Shaffer ascendants. The tallest of them being about 5’9” and most between 5’4” and 5’7”. My Robinson ancestors fell between 5’10” and 6’3”. My sons are about my height with the youngest being a smidge taller. My ex is 5’8”...red haired with green to hazel eyes, the boys are both blue/green eyed...mine are more green. Debby is 65 and looks in her late 30s. I think she’s a witch because she seems to cast a spell over everyone she meets. She is also one of the most intelligent people I have ever met.

If by Hollywood beauty you mean a well known actress then the answer is yes, certainly ... although I actually believe that many famous performers are deemed to be "beautiful" BECAUSE they are famous, not really because they are exactly beautiful. This is true of many actresses but it is ESPECIALLY true of actors.

It's true of the many of the best known models too. When I was working around advertising, I always thought that the young women who did local newspaper adds and soap commercials were much better looking than the so called supermodels, many of whom just looked odd. Especially in person. At certain times photographers have liked models with oddly flat faces (not that they looked that way in pictures) because they could shoot very shallow depth of field shots without getting part of the face out of focus. I'm guessing that you'll still never see a make up model with a long nose for this reason.

A great many actors/actresses aren't all that "attractive" just because they are kind of neurotic and don't really turn the exciting parts of their personality on until they have a role or public appearance. When you see an actor on something like a talk show you should consider that as much a performance and as unlike their real personality as any role they might play.

For example I've been around (as opposed to knowing or being friends with) Al Pacino on a few occasions. For an actor with a HUGE presence on screen he is nearly a non-entity in person. He does his thing, which is performing when the lights go up. He doesn't have the same energy, or waste any energy, or something, when there is no paycheck.

Wow, now that's interesting.
When I worked close to the interstate, every once in while, a great while, a truly beautiful woman would would drop by. It was shocking.
