"Judge Charles P Moore"

My grandfather was a Louis L'Amour fan and Louis put his name in one of his books, but I don't know which one. He is an itinerant judge traveling by wagon who is waylaid and killed in an early chapter. The book must have been published pre-1967 because I learned of this when I was a child. His name was Charles Moore, does anyone know which book? Thank you!

Checked in Hal Hall's bibliography (damn near our bible on LL) and he is not listed in there. Any mention must have been minor or in passing otherwise I am sure Hal would have picked it up.

The English Language is weird. It can be understood through tough thorough thought though.

Could it have been in a short story? For some reason, the name rings a bell.

No Hal Hall's bibliography covers everything published by Louis, Pulps slick magazines and books. So my earlier response still applies.
